WoodChuck

If you own a table-saw you are already a woodchuck. Unfinished toy blocks are simple cubes 1.5 inches on each side with no sharp edges and no sharp splinters. Made from Spruce, Pine, Fir lumber (SPF), a construction 2X4 stud. These can be made on a table-saw. Sanding smooth provides a paint-able surface. Leaving smooth knots, rings, grain is acceptable and educational.

A softwood like SPF is desired for its ability to absorb water based craft paints. Please, No Hardwoods.

For safety reasons Never use treated or painted wood or stained wood or dirty material.

The question everyone ask is:

"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck wood?"

The answer turns out to be 6 blocks per set.

A standard 2X4 is 1.5 inches thick by 3.5 inches wide.

follow these steps:

Set the rip fence of the saw to cut the board down the middle of the 4 inch side. At this point you have a 1.5 inch thick by 1.75 inch wide piece with one side cut
Set the rip fence to 1.5 inches. Place the cut side against the rip fence and run the piece thru the saw. Now you have a 1.5 by 1.5 piece with two cut edges.
The last step is to remove the rip fence. Set a stop to 1.5 inches. using a cross slide set to 90 degrees. cut blocks to finish size. The blocks now have four cut sides.
Now sand the blocks smooth with 220 grit sandpaper.
